Data Science with Apache Spark

Note: Please arrive as early as 5pm for pizza, beverages, and networking. The presentation will begin at 6pm.

You’ve heard a lot about Apache Spark and the amazing things it can do, but have you ever tried it? With so many libraries and tools available, where should you even start?

This highly interactive presentation will walk through several Spark applications, including integrations to popular machine learning libraries such as H20 and Tensorflow. We will cover the full data science workflow, from locating and cleaning data to visualizing and communicating your results. Attendees can expect to leave with the concrete knowledge needed to explore Spark on their own.

Bio

Kevin Mellott is a Data Science Software Engineer at Direct Supply, where he has been mentoring junior developers for over a decade. He is currently the lead developer for the Innovation Team, primarily focused on establishing advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities throughout the company.

Kevin is an active member of the Apache Spark community, and has recently earned a Spark developer certificate from UC-Berkeley. When he is not “teaching the machines”, he can usually be found in a movie theater or an ice hockey rink.
