About us
All are welcome! Even the young, old, Virginians, and Washingtonians. Although my goal with this group is to lure out folks in their late 30's to early 50's and help remind them how to have fun outside. So if you're one of those people who has been spending too many Saturdays watching children's soccer games, sneak out and join us sometime soon. We'll even post events further afield in VA, WV, and PA, but the majority of meetups will be in Central Maryland and usually 4-8 miles in length.
This group has only four rules:
- If you sign up, show up. I will ruthlessly boot anyone who is a no-show. It only takes 6 seconds on average to change your RSVP to NO. Don't you want to give your spot to someone in dire need of fun?
- Please read the entire description before signing up for an event. I work hard to post thorough descriptions so people can be informed of both the itinerary AND the expected challenges.
- You are responsible for your own safety. This is just a group of potential new friends walking around the woods, not a professional guide service. Please come prepared with the appropriate gear and provisions to safely make it through the posted itinerary.
- Have fun! No spoilsports allowed.
Many events will be cross-posted with the warmer-season group, Paddle Something. If you've got a kayak, canoe or paddle board - check it out at: https://www.meetup.com/paddle-something/

Ukefest Outdoor Strum-Along Concert at Strathmore
The Mansion At Strathmore, 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD, USStrathmore's annual ukulele-centric festival, Ukefest, kicks off this Saturday and has a grand finale on the lawn next Wednesday. If you get there by 7, you can strum along to a few numbers before the main concert begins.
This event is free, but use the link below if you want to tip Strathmore for all of the wonderful programs they host. You don't need a ukulele to join, but the more the merrier!
I will be somewhere on the outskirts with my neon green and white Flying V uke. Comment below if you have trouble finding the group.
RSVP here so that Strathmore can gauge the crowd and keep you updated about rain delays.

Hike Lake Needwood - Hilly 2.6 Miles
Lake Needwood Boats, 15700 Needwood Lake Cir, Rockville, MD, USLake Needwood is a delightful little oasis less than 2 miles from the Shady Grove metro station and the bustle of Rockville Pike. The loop is just the right size for an end-of-week evening hike.
We will meet by the kayak rental building and boat ramp, which is at the 5 o'clock position of the lake. There is a parking lot less than 200 ft away. We will do brief introductions promptly at 6:15 and begin a clockwise tour around the lake. The trail is mostly gravel or packed mulch, though paved for a few segments are paved. It is only 2.6 miles but there are several sizable hills throughout the loop.
Follow the route on Alltrails here
Being as we are so close to the infinite restaurant options on the Pike, I know I'll be grabbing dinner afterwards. Suggestions on where we should go are welcome.
