The Future of Human Morality: As AI becomes more capable.

Details

I have been reflecting on morality lately. Am I moral? Is human morality innate or learned? What do I mean by morality? Why is it significant? If AI reaches the capabilities that AI optimists envision, why is what’s happening with human morality in the world crucial to the future of our species? If AI becomes able to perform more of our jobs and potentially all of them within the century, will we develop a humanity that is increasingly kind, respectful, and supportive, or one that is more brutal?

The future of human morality might be the most critical topic of the 21st century, and we are ignoring it. We may be characters in humanity’s most vital “morality play” playing out right before our eyes. If we are to be just characters and not the director or the playwright, let’s at least understand the role we are likely to have. Please join us for our meeting on November 29, so we can discuss it.

  • In the meantime, try to come up with three words that you believe best describe the behavior of a moral person. It’s a great exercise.

The time between 9:30 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. is called “random bits,” during which we have short discussions on anything someone has learned during the week that could significantly impact our futures. At 10:00 A.M., the main presentation begins.
