Outing Title: Hike the Ancient Mni Owe Sni (Cold Water Springs) and North Star Volunteer Action...
Date and Time: 9 AM, Monday, November 10th, 70 to 90 minutes with time to stop at Springs.
Location: 5601 Minnehaha Park Drive South, meet at the start of the Mni Owe Sni trail where the stone platform stage and designated trail signage is located.
Distance: 2.5 miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Description of Hike: We will walk to the Mni Owe Sni springs which is now designated as a historical tribal sacred space of the Mendota Wakapanton Dakota Tribal Community. We will explore the natural spring that has a stone structure and pond. Then we will walk back to the entry and hike on the bluffs and the gravel trails through the forest and restored prairie. The trails along the bluff have some rocky terrain and some steeper areas.
Needed equipment: Sturdy hiking shoes or sport walking shoes, Your own water bottle.
. Hats, jackets and gloves.
Optional: Hiking poles.
Pets can be allowed on leashes as long as they can be within a few feet of other people and dogs.
Volunteer Action: At the end of the hike, we will review how to sign up to stay informed and volunteer for the North Star Sierra Club. Light snacks and hot coffee will be available at the stage platform area.
