Should I run for the Minnesota Senate?
Hello Kurt;
Running on the grass
roots party platform may seem like a fun way to go but it won’t be 500
signatures you will need but rather more like 2000. It will be a percentage of
the vote in the last election and since a Senate seat is twice the population
of a Rep seat, so is the number of signatures needed. If you are really trying
to get in their face, running in the DFL or GOP primaries will get you more
votes and attention. It will get you in the debates and on the ballot for only
your sign fee of about $100. and you can file the hardship waiver with only a
few signatures to get around that too. I strongly advise against going the
Grassroots Party route unless or until it grows an adequate base, remember,
Chris came in a distant 4th and had no affect on either of the big 2 parties.
We need to run races with some hope of winning as well as making our presence
known as loud as possible, that does not happen with a third party candidacy
failure. That is my advice having done both.
Sincerely,
W. D. (Bill)
