Jason,

Perhaps I didn't clearly specify what my college chapter is up to. Political lobbying is only a fraction of what we are doing. Kurt has kept me in the loop on the legal challenges, which I am in complete support of. We are planning an event to discuss the legal options available. In addition, we are soon to be embarking on a social initiative to help alter the public's perception of cannabis for the better. Indeed I realize a single-sided challenge is futile.

Thanks for the suggestion of using Students for Liberty. A chapter already exists, and I will talk to them about partnering for events.

Kevin,

One, might I suggest you look into students for liberty for free materials for your college chapter? And two, without a legal challenge backing up your political lobbying and education campaigns, you will get nowhere. Showing up with signs or getting two reps to sign onto a bill is cute, and useful, but using the law is serious business. We've got a powerful argument to test out. Educate people on the law, learn about the law, and use it, or don't waste your time.

Why all the in-fighting? It is completely counter-productive. Time is a precious commodity. Do you want to use it for an ego battle so you can be 'right', or do you want to use it to be productive and get things done? If every decision made has this amount of in-fighting over what 'should' be done, we will never get anything done.

Let's stop this. Both of you are right. Neither of you are wrong. You both have your independent opinions which you are entitled to. Just because a person does not share the same opinion as yourself does not make him or her wrong.

Bill,

I understand where you're coming from. There has been limited success with legal battles on the cannabis front to date, making the outlook not-so-bright. However, there has been some success. In addition, a legal battle has the opportunity to get rid of the Controlled Substances Act by a single ruling declaring it unconstitutional. Whether you like it or not, there is enormous opportunity in a legal challenge. Too much opportunity to ignore. Kurt has a knack for case law, therefore it makes sense that we put his skill to use. It would be inefficient for Kurt to primarily do community organizing. As inconvenient as it may be, Kurt does not possess the same skills your grandson has. A good community organizer is a rare commodity. Rather than being upset with Kurt for not being who you'd like him to be, find someone else. Find a community organizer, and you will have done the movement great justice.

I agree with you that we need a political challenge. Law is a very, very slow moving process, and we need something quicker in the mean time. That is why at the St. Cloud State University chapter, I am building a team of people to educate the locale on the issues cannabis prohibition causes. That being said, I am but a college student with limited time and resources. So much so, that I can only focus on a relatively small geographic area. I am doing what I can in St. Cloud. We need more chapters throughout the state to be doing the same to get the political action you are looking for. If you help form chapters, or grow the one's already in existence, you will be a productive member of the movement. I implore you to consider this option.

Thank you for your time

Kurt,
You fail to understand here that this legal harassment approach is exactly what the national NORML group has done for nearly 40 years with only minor improvement. MPP has been effective at putting the Medicinal issue out and getting some seriously half ass initiatives passed all over the country. Many of these please no one and only create a new political football. These are both failure strategies as neither group has ever been able to, or shown any interest in, politically organized their base. This battle must be fought in the political arena and won now, not promised to the next generation by the lazy again. As for being a public organizer, do you believe in the cause or not? Your commitment, your connected support for the cause, and your faith do the organizing you just need to be there. I've heard a lot of cop outs in my time bud and that one wasn't new. My almost 12 year old grandson is a better organizer than most I've met in this movement simply because he can talk to people. Sometimes in life growth means overcoming ones fears, unwarranted fear is like a self imposed bully so fight back and get over it, as I never want to ever see this young man charged in the next assault wave because we were again to damn lazy to get the job done right. If you can't get motivated to fight for yourself, than do it for your children and grandchildren and show them some balls. If you think this is offensive, good, it is made to make you think from the perspective of some one who has been standing alone for your kind for far too long. This is a completely winnable battle if we become an immovable object on the state political scene, if not we may as well go back in the closet and roll another one now and not waste our time.
