Details

On Sunday we will walk from the quarry entrance on Kimptons Road, Brookby, over the hills on a neglected track to Clevedon, where we will lunch. As we go over the hills, we will experience unparalleled views from the City to the firth of Thames.
If the group want, we can take an extended 45 minutes lunch pause in Clevedon, as it is the day of both the famous Clevedon Farmers Market and the Clevedon Village market. We will need to arrive about noon as it closes at 1pm. Bring some cash and buy up big!
We have negotiated to walk over some private farm land, then we will follow a neglected track to the well maintained Clevedon Scenic Reserve down the Kauri track, quite a lot of steps, and emerge on Thorpes Quarry Rd. We then have about a kilometre or so on the very busy county roads into Clevedon, (the Clevedon Village Market) and then on to our destination (closing soon) the Farmers Market on Monument Rd.
On the way back, we will retrace our steps to the Reserve, then go up the Puriri track climbing up a more than 1000 steps before we get our last views to infinity and see our cars parked in the distance.
This will likely be a new walk for most people, so come and join us for a great day, and experience the markets.

THE DIRT
• Time: Approx. 4 - 4.5 hours plus lunch at the market
• Distance: 12 - 14 km out and back
• Elevation gain: 560m
• Difficulty: Intermediate to Hard (All Trails, but we are not following the AT paper road, which is the hard bit, we are walking through the farmers privately owned paddock and down his driveway). There are steep climbs and descents, and through the Reserve, a lot of steps.
• Terrain: Metal country road, grass paddock, very neglected track, well maintained track, steps and walkway, sealed road and suburban footpath.
• Grade: 3 + neglected track, elevation gain and distance.

Because the grade is above 3, for new members, you will need to reply to a message we send you, where you will confirm that you can complete such a grade. We would prefer you walk with us on an easier walk before you do the harder grade walks.

After the first couple of kilometres, if you are not keeping up, we will ask you to return to the carpark and wait for the hike to conclude. If you have not walked with us before, can you walk up Mt Eden at a good pace, without the need to stop? If you are uncertain, message the organisers, and we can help you decide.

Looking forward to a great day outdoors.
