What we’re about

We meet online weekly, with plans for monthly in-person gatherings in Pittsburgh down the line. This is a women only group for those who are within commuting distance of Pittsburgh.

We’re in the early days of building something special: a women’s friendship community based on consistency, care, and shared rhythms. Inspired by the moai tradition of lifelong support networks as is traditional in Okinawa Japan, our aim is to form small, committed groups of women ("moais") who meet weekly to grow meaningful connection over time.

The goal:

  • This is a slow-growing, thoughtful space — not a drop-in social group, but a place to keep showing up.
  • Small group connection: The moai will meet weekly online. More Moais will form over time, based on availability and shared interests.
  • Monthly large group gatherings: These will begin online, with casual, welcoming spaces to connect with the wider community.
  • Members are encouraged to interact outside of the meetings. Especially with their moai. Ideally contact information will be shared and people will check on each other during the week outside of their meeting. We are aiming for the sort of group that will check in on someone if they don't show up.

Beginning phase plans:

  • Initially we will all meet as a group to get the ball rolling.
  • Members will be grouped into small groups of 6-8 women. If a few people drop from a group, then we will combine groups or add new members as necessary.

Future plans:

  • Monthly in-person meetups in Pittsburgh for the larger group.
  • Some time this year we will have member dues to help support the cost of upgraded Meetup and Zoom, likely around $25 or less annually (depending on member numbers), but right now since everyone is trying it out still it is not in place. There will be a 2 month trial period before people are expected to contribute.

Whether you’re craving meaningful conversation, tired of starting from scratch socially, or just want a steady place to land each week, we’d love to welcome you.
This is a community-in-the-making.
