Great API's to help your apps grow

Details

Mobile Backend is for everyone who wants to get their hands dirty with API's. At every meetup we have speakers from companies that have API's to make your mobile applications greater than ever.

This months meetup follows on from last months where we will focus on the backend ability of your apps. We are lucky to have Couchbase (http://www.couchbase.com) which is the NoSql database behind the megamoney app that is Draw Something. Speaking and hosting us for this meetup are 5app (http://www.5app.co.uk/), a mobile application software toolkit vendor. We also have ReleaseMobile (http://www.releasemobile.com/) presenting about their new data API SaaS product called "API Maker" which is being built. Our final speakers are QuickBlox (http://www.quickblox.com) who have a great cloud hosted backend for your apps.

Talk 1: Title: Why NoSQL? Understanding Data Management for Interactive Software Systems

Abstract: This talk will provide the big picture on why NoSQL database technology makes sense for today's interactive web and mobile applications. In this talk you will learn:

The architectural differences between relational and NoSQL technology How to evaluate the NoSQL landscape, comparing different approaches (key-value, docment-oriented, columnar, graph, etc) and the pros and cons of each How scale-out database technology enables consistently high throughput and performance How the absence of a rigid database schema leads to more flexible applications Why a NoSQL database (like Couchbase) may be the best fit for your requirements Speaker Bio: Perry Krug is a Solutions Architect at Couchbase working with customers in all capacities to aid in their experiences with Couchbase. He has been with Couchbase for 2 years, and has been working with high performance caching and database systems for over 6.

Talk 2: Title: Making reliable enterprise apps

About 5App: 5app is a mobile application software toolkit vendor which has designed an environment for the rapid application development of robust, real-time, enterprise-scale, mobile business applications with built-in workflow, geolocation reporting and full data reliability. Developers use the 5app Factory to create multi-platform apps that guarantee transactions over the inherently unreliable mobile data network.

Speaker: Dr Tim King, is a veteran of the technology market; writing one ot the world's first relational database management systems as part of his Ph.D., then going on to write the operating system AmigaDOS for the Amiga.

Talk 3: Title: TBC

About API Builder: Need a data API now, but don't want to build it from scratch? And don't want to pay for it either?

Release Mobile (http://www.releasemobile.com (http://www.releasemobile.com/)) are building a new data API SaaS product called "API Maker". API Maker is designed to help non-technical clients easily open up private data so it can be connected to mobile apps via REST web service APIs. A pre-launch pilot trial is already underway with a small group of media companies & government agencies. Release Mobile are interested in meeting anyone working on a mobile project which has a data API integration requirement.

Speaker: Will Lovegrove graduated from Nottingham University in 1997 with a 1st in Computer Science & a PhD in Electronic Publishing. CV includes Adobe Systems Inc, Brainspark – an Internet Business Incubator – and most recently Director of Universal Music Group International's IT Digital Initiatives.

Talk 4: ChattAR - Augmented Reality Chat API

About QuickBlox: QuickBlox will demo an iPhone app with Augmented Reality Chat. ChattAR integrates Facebook, Google Map, Augmented Reality, Chat and Push Notifications. It is a great example of how a bunch of APIs can easily bring your app to a next level. Source code will be released openly enabling developers to integrate AR Chat into their apps.

Speaker: Michael Armstrong
