Mobile Monastery Chautauqua Tour

Hello Naples! A group of touring monastic practitioners are making their way through Naples March 4th for a donation based workshop and offerings extravaganza! This group of facilitators come all the way from the beautiful hills of Vermont at The Monastic Academy where they live and study Buddhist and Native traditions. They travel the nation once a year and share their talents and techniques to people who may not be able to make it all the way to Vermont. It’s called the Mobile Monastery Chautauqua Tour continuing the beautiful Chautauqua tradition of sharing wisdom and talents in a traveling caravan.

- Chanting — Connect with the rhythms of sacred songs while singing in harmony together.

- Guided Meditation — For beginners to learn how to meditate and advanced practitioners to deepen their practice.

- Massage and Tea — Enjoy a free bodywork session, first-come first-serve, and make new friends over a cup of tea.

- Community Potluck Dinner Discussion — A shared meal and conversation exploring the intersection of emerging technologies and the spiritual path.

- Dharma Talk: Buddhism as a Foundation to Address AI Risk — A talk and group discussion addressing questions such as: Are AIs conscious? Should AI be aligned with human values? How can wisdom and compassion be cultivated in these entities?

Mobile Monastery Events are offered by donation, inviting participants to explore dāna, the Buddhist practice of generosity.

Each event is unique to the city, the venue and their preferences. For Ithaca they are offering an evening of embodied practice, gentle healing arts, and reflective conversation held in the beauty of nature.

What We'll Be Exploring Together:

• Massage and Tea — Enjoy a brief bodywork session, first-come first-serve, and make new friends over a cup of tea.

• Movement Flow — Contact improvisation, movement meditation, and somatic awareness. How can improv movement help us move beyond thought and emotion and deepen into present-moment experience?

• AI and the Spiritual Path — A Dharma Talk and group discussion exploring how we can choose a future where the mind that is making AI is reverent, honorable, loving, and wise.

5:30 – 6:30 - Potluck with Massage and Tea
Enjoy a brief FREE bodywork session, first-come first-serve. Make new friends over a cup of tea. Bring something yummy to share if you wish.

6:30pm – 8:00pm - Chanting, Guided Meditation, and Circling
Circling is an interpersonal meditation practice of present-moment awareness and authentic communication with other humans. It develops our ability to notice what is true for us in the moment, express it, and be with others as they do the same. The format is massively open-ended but is rooted in sharing the personal and embodied experience of being here and now. What’s it like to be here, right now? What are you seeing, hearing, or feeling? What stories are you making? Circling makes the claim that by responsibly and sincerely embodying and expressing what is true for us in relationship with others, more clarity, love, and power will come of it.

Mobile Monastery Events are offered by donation to give people the opportunity to explore giving resources as a spiritual practice. Dāna is a Buddhist term for the virtue of generosity.

This group of facilitators come all the way from the beautiful hills of Vermont at The Monastic Academy where they live and study Buddhist and Native traditions. They travel the nation once a year and share their talents and techniques to people who may not be able to make it all the way to Vermont. It’s called the Mobile Monastery Chautauqua Tour continuing the beautiful Chautauqua tradition of sharing wisdom and talents in a traveling caravan. This gathering offers a supportive space to slow down, connect, and reflect together.

Each event is unique to the city, the venue and their preferences. In Northampton there will be meditation, interpersonal practice, and thoughtful exploration of the relationship between emerging technologies and the spiritual path.

- Guided Meditation — For beginners to learn how to meditate and advanced practitioners to deepen their practice.

• Teaching Wisdom and Compassion to the Mind That Is Making AI — In this talk, we will discuss how we can choose a future where the mind shaping AI is reverent, honorable, loving, and wise.
