What we’re about
Welcome to this new group! I am creating this group space to support young children (and their caregivers) with navigating the challenges around a parent being incarcerated. The goal is to create a community of support- where we can share challenges and ideas for solutions. These group sessions will be held online. In the future, we can decide together if meetups for young children with their caregivers would be beneficial to the families attending the group.
It is well researched that when a parent becoming incarcerated while children are young, this is considered an ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) that can creating lasting impacts for children into their adulthood. As caregivers/community of support for these children, we are navigating the sensitivity around this situation for the children- impacts on our own lives as we take on new and often unexpected responsibilities, impact on the children academically, medically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
My hope is that coming together, we can begin to better support our children, remove the burden of shame, and find ways to uplift ourselves and our children! Please join.
