UIn The Style of Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is an American photographer renowned for her dramatic and iconic portraits of a great variety of celebrities. Her signature style is crisp and well lighted. Over the past two decades, Annie Leibovitz has become synonymous with Vanity Fair magazine’s visual brilliance and has shot 104 covers and countless portraits for the magazine.

Leibovitz joined the staff of Vanity Fair in 1983 after shooting 142 covers for Rolling Stone. This broadened her pool of subjects to include film stars, athletes, and political figures. For her portraits, Leibovitz, who viewed her photographic sessions as collaborations, typically spent days observing her subjects’ daily lives and worked to make her portraits of them unique and witty, each a technically exquisite distillation. Her commercial images were dramatic and staged rather than casual.

In this workshop, we will examine and emulate Annie’s cinematic lighting style and create Vanity Fair style images. We will discuss strobe lights, backdrops, props and various light modifiers that Annie typically uses as well as how to work with a model. This workshop will have a short lecture and there will be instructors there to help with the lighting and answer any questions.

We will have three shooting stations set up so each participant will have ample time to work with the models and create some portfolio worthy images in the style of Annie Leibovitz. We will also have hand painted canvas backdrops like the ones Leibovitz uses in her work.

We will have 4 models and a hair and makeup artist/stylist to create some really cool high fashion retro looks.

We'll supply/handle the lighting, triggers, (if you have your own Pocket Wizards or compatible triggers, please bring them); you supply a camera with hot shoe, a lens with a focal length of 50-100 mm, a fresh battery, and plenty of memory cards (if you're unfamiliar with your camera, also bring your manual, or put the pdf of it on your phone).

This event is suitable for all level photographers

Cost for the workshop is $100. A $50.00 non-refundable processing and setup fee is required to hold your spot when you RSVP with the remaining balance due by March 1st, 2023. Payments can be made with the options below:
