This three and a half mile in and out hike starts at the Aspen Basin trial head, goes up the Winsor trial for about half of a mile to the wilderness gate, then up the Raven's Ridge trail for a little over one mile to the overlook. This overlook has the best view of the western side of the Pecos Wilderness I know of, Lake peak and Penitente peak to the south, Santa Fe Baldy to the east, and the Truchas peaks to the north. The hike should take about three hours at a relaxed pace. With a one-hour twenty-minute drive time, the trip time is about 4 and a half hours.
Wear good hiking boots. Bring Raincoat, poles, hat, sunscreen, plenty of water and lunch.
Please be prepared to offer your driver $5.00 for gas.
