Lion's Cave trail runs down along a canyon wall filled with holes of many shapes and sizes. The trail is sandy, nearly level, about one mile long, and connects with Water Canyon and Burnt Mesa trails.
Broken Mesa lies on the south side of Water canyon and is about two thirds of a mile long. Broken Mesa trail climbs up the side of the mesa until it reaches the tip of a promontory overlooking Lower water canyon. This is a spectacular view. The return trip loops around the north side of Broken Mesa, then goes up Water canyon to the parking aria.
Wear good hiking boots. Bring poles, hat, sunscreen, water and lunch or snakes. Dogs on leash are welcome.
Santa Fe people will meet at the Tesuque casino at 9 AM. Los Alamos people will meet at the Bandelier visitor center in White Rock at 9:45 AM.
