Boletsakwa Pueblo Ruins and Goblin Rocks- Jemez Mountains

Details
This hike replaces the Ball Ranch hike which we will do when the temperatures are cooler.
This outing involves two different hikes in a beautiful ponderosa forest.
Boletsakwa is located near the Village of Ponderosa near the southern end of the Jemez Mountains. We will be among towering ponderosa pines on a mesa overlooking a mountain stream. This is a easy hike.
The ruin is reported to have 650 rooms, two kivas, a great kiva (30 feet in diameter), three plazas, a reservoir, and rock art. The ruin has some low exposed walls and mounds of building stones. The elevation of the site is 7200 feet.
Boletsakwa was occupied between 1350 to 1650 and was a refuge site after the pueblo revolt between 1680 to after 1700.
The hike is about two miles with an elevation change less than 200 feet. Hiking will be on roads, trails, and off-trail.
The Goblin Rocks are a geologic wonderland of oddly shaped volcanic tuff formations and are several miles away from Boletsakwa. The hike is about one mile with 400 feet of elevation change. The trail is steep and trekking poles are required to safely hike this very scenic hike. There will be some off trail hiking. I’m a very slow hiker going uphill. This is a moderate hike.
it is suggested that riders provide $14 to their driver. Any vehicle can make it to the trail head.
