The Hamilton Mesa is within the Pecos Wilderness and may be accessed by driving north of the Village of Pecos to the Iron Gate Campground. Hamilton Mesa is known for its awesome views of the 12,000-to-13,000-foot peaks in the wilderness and the beautiful aspen groves viewed throughout this hike.

Hamilton Mesa is a huge meadow at around 10,000 feet elevation that continues for miles. From the mesa you can practically see all the high peaks in the wilderness plus countless groves of aspens. This moderate hike will be under six miles with an elevation change of about 800 feet on a good trail. The pace will be relaxed. Our starting elevation is about 9300 feet, and we will reach about 10,100 feet so bring appropriate hiking gear. Well behaved dogs that are leashed are okay.

Please provide your drivers $10 for gas. The last several miles of forest road require a high clearance vehicle as the road can be pretty bad. Please indicate in the comments if you can drive and how many people you can take.
