Plaza Blanca Slot

Join me for a moderately easy, Three mile, hike through the Plaza Blanca slot.

This trip promises stunning views, fresh air, and a chance to unwind in nature. There is however, one short scramble that requires climbing up a steep incline (3rd class).
The Santa Fe people will meet up at the Tesuquiu casino at 9:00 AM. The Los lamos People will meet us at Bodies in Abiuquiu at around 10:00 AM. If you want to meet at Bodies, please leave a message below.
Wear good hiking boots. Bring poles, hat, sunscreen, plenty of water and snacks or lunch. Dogs on leash are welcome.
Please plan to offer your driver $8.00 for gas.

Plaza Blanca is located on Dar al Islam and is not open to the public. Dar al Islam reserves the right to refuse access to anyone, for any reason, at any time. Visitors forgo copyrights to any photos taken on the land. Professional photographers must contact the office before any filming. Visitors can register and obtain the gate code online at https://daralislam.org/ (click on the "Plaza Blanca" tab at the top of the page). No climbing is allowed on the rock formations. Trails are made by waterways. Please do not make your own trails. Made famous by local artist Georgia O'Keeffe, these landscapes in a valley of the Rio Chama hills near the village of Abiquiu, when she made a series of paintings about the places she called "The White Place", or in Spanish "Plaza Blanca", this area of New Mexico is now on the grounds of the Dar Al Islam education center and mosque.
