A Caja del Rio hike to Frijoles Canyon Overlook and Pueblo ruins
Details
The Frijoles Canyon Overlook Trail offers a breath-taking view of White Rock Canyon, the Jemez Mountains, and the rugged lower portion of Frijoles Canyon in Bandelier National Monument.
Total distance is 6.3 miles with 500 feet of elevation change.
This hike will take us to the east rim of White Rock Canyon, where we can peer down 1,000 feet to the Rio Grande and up Frijoles Canyon into Bandelier. The views are spectacular.
From here we will hike to a Pueblo ruin which looks out over White Rock Canyon and the Jemez Mountains before we head back the same way to the vehicles.
We will be hiking on a rocky road so trekking poles and boots are a good idea.
The last section of the road we will be driving is a rugged 4wd high clearance road. Everyone will be placed on the waitlist and those with the required vehicle will be given priority along with those that I know will show up.
Please provide your driver $3.
We will meet at the west end of the parking lot for the dog park located on the Caja del Rio road in front of the Animal Shelter.
