This is an 8-mile hike that is downhill the entire way through a lush canyon with high canyon walls. We will leave a car at the Bandelier Headquarters and begin our hike at the Ponderosa Campground far upstream from the Headquarters. From here we will take a good trail to the canyon edge where we will descend 700 feet to the Upper Frijoles Crossing. From here it’s a delightful stroll along Frijoles Creek which passes Pueblo ruins, kivas, and caves occupied by the ancients dating back to 1150 AD.

Trekking poles may be handy in hiking the trail down to the canyon bottom and navigating stream crossings.

Everyone will be placed on a waiting list and those that have shown up for hikes will be given priority. Unfortunately, I have a long list of hikers that didn’t show up, taking a spot that could have been taken by someone on the waitlist.

We will meet in the parking lot behind Market Street Grocery Store in DeVargas Mall. I drive a dark grey Toyota 4Runner. If you're running late call me 505-699-2546.

Please be considerate of other hikers and if you need to cancel, please do so 24 hours before the hike.

Pets are not allowed in Bandelier. There is a fee for Bandelier but we will be in vehicles where the drivers have Senior Passes.

Please pay your driver $5.
