ONLINE: History of Simple Living: from Confucius to Kondo (Part 2)

Details

This is the monthly meeting of Modern Minimalism (4th Thursdays). It's online.

Last month, we had a great discussion, but only finished half the outline. So, we continue this month... Simple living (a/k/a “living simply”) is a modern lifestyle choice, but the goals are not clear. Some people gravitate towards it to improve aspects of their lives, while others are rejecting the choices offered by society. We’ll review the costs and benefits of Minimalism. Plus, we’ll cover some of the great people in history who believed in Minimalism: starting in 500 BC with Confucius, then religious figures like Buddha and Jesus, philosophers like Rousseau and Thoreau, and up through today’s Marie Kondo. Our goal is to discuss the practical side of Minimalism. Feel free to invite a friend.

Reading Material

As usual, I'll prepare an outline of discussion points, so you don't have to read the articles or watch the videos in advance.

Our group enjoys open-minded, respectful conversations on Minimalism and how it relates to science, culture, philosophy, other belief systems, and even pop culture (books and movies). Sometimes "we agree to disagree", but the long-term goal is to improve our minds via group discussions.

In general, Minimalism teaches us how to manage our possessions, our time, and how to find purpose and meaning in our lives.

This meeting is free and open to the public.
