"Awesome Web Testing with Playwright"

Everybody gets frustrated when web apps are broken, but testing them thoroughly doesn’t need to be a chore. Playwright, a new open-source browser automation tool from Microsoft, makes testing web apps fun! Playwright offers a slew of nifty features like automatic waiting, mobile emulation, and network interception. Plus, with isolated browser contexts, Playwright tests can set up much faster than traditional Web UI tests. In this talk, we will learn how to automate concise yet robust web app tests with Playwright in TypeScript. Specifically, we will cover:

  • How to install and configure Playwright
  • How to write and run tests with Playwright Test
  • How to perform interactions through page objects
  • How to conveniently run different browsers, capture videos, and run tests in parallel
  • How to add visual assertions to your Playwright tests

After this talk, you’ll be empowered to test modern web apps of any kind with modern web test tools. You’ll also be able to compare Playwright with other tools like Selenium WebDriver and Cypress.

"Accessibility as a Process"

Your project isn't ADA compliant, now what? Where do you even begin to apply the information in the WCAG? This talk will help explain the sections of the WCAG and how to include accessibility in your project plans. The WCAG provides a great deal of information to help companies build accessible projects on the web. But it's not uncommon for those who try to navigate its content to become overwhelmed. This can lead to task paralysis making it difficult to take the next steps towards fixing the issues with your project. This talk will highlight a few common accessibility issues and how to use the various sections of the WCAG and RACI to help establish a way forward. Allowing you to move forward with building a better, more inclusive product.

"Fast and Serious - Build Serverless Apps with the JAM stack - (Serverless)"

Let’s explore how as developers we can harness the power of JavaScript, APIs, and Markup (JAM) - known as the JAMSTACK - to build efficient and scalable serverless applications. We’ll delve into the principles and advantages of the JAMstack architecture, which fosters a robust environment for agile development and high performance. We will demystify common misconceptions around serverless computing and demonstrate how we can use JAMstack to achieve faster load times, better security, and seamless scaling.

Plus a bonus lightning talk from Chris Stone
"Buried in Technical Debt?"

Have you ever taken a shortcut to complete a task, assuring yourself that you would go back and clean it up and do it the right way later when you had the time? In software, this is called “technical debt,” and when it piles up, it can make code hard to read and maintain. Soon enough, the cost to fix these problems can become too high, and convincing your team to take action becomes increasingly difficult. In this talk, I discuss the different types of technical debt, how to convince other people in the organization of the importance of making regular “minimum payments,” and some creative strategies to keep in mind for software projects with excessive “accrued interest."

Can't wait to see you!
