Join the Functional Copenhagener Meetup Group (MF#K) and learn why functional programming is currently gaining support from the biggest players in the industry.
LONG VERSION:
Get an introduction to the use, origins and benefits of functional languages from Joakim Ahnfelt-Rønne and Ramón Soto Mathiesen - both active in the Functional Copenhagener Meetup Group in Copenhagen.
Reliable, adj: To deliver the same result every time.
A purely functional program is a program that, given the same input, delivers the same result every time.
The event will be divided in two:
the first part will be a talk about building reliable software using functional programming in the face of real-world problems, such as networking, concurrency and file systems; and second part will be more of a practical talk where we all will be coding functionally but without using a computer, it's going to be fun, no pun intended. Functional languages differ from imperative and object oriented languages in a number of ways, implying both strengths and weaknesses. Notable functional languages are Haskell, Erlang, Scala and F#, followed by Lisp, Clojure, OCaml among others.
Joakim and Ramón are both experienced developers and eager to share their experience and enthusiasm with others. The Functional Copenhageners Meetup Group is a community for coders and other enthusiasts working with functional languages in various software projects that aim to reach production.

These talks are aimed to people who want to hear/learn about functional programming languages without any prior knowledge to them. The talks are also language-agnostic, we focus on the paradigm and not so much on a specific implementation.

The ADA meeting room fits about 25 people and if we need more space, we can use the canteen (PASCAL), which has a capacity of +50.
