Moms In Their Prime Book Club (Moms 40+) is reading the NYT bestseller, Bel Canto, this month of February. We'll meet at Yamato Sushi in Timonium at 6:00 PM. The restaurant is BYOB. Bel Canto is a 2001 novel by Ann Patchett about a hostage situation in an unspecified South American country, inspired by the 1996 Lima hostage crisis. A band of terrorists takes a group of international guests hostage at a birthday party, but the standoff evolves as unexpected bonds, friendships, and romances form between the captors and captives, centered around the world-renowned soprano Roxane Coss and her connection with a Japanese businessman. The novel explores themes of language, communication, and finding beauty in crisis, winning the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize for Fiction.
