### The Experience
Join us for an incredible journey through the southern ridge of the Shawangunks at the Sam's Point Area of Minnewaska. This trek combines panoramic cliff-side views, an otherworldly geological wonder, and the tallest waterfall on the ridge.
We will start with a steady climb up to the dramatic Sam's Point Overlook for sweeping views of the valley. From there, we’ll dive deep into the famous Ice Caves—a labyrinth of narrow rock crevices, boardwalks, and wooden ladders where cold air traps ice well into the summer months.
After navigating the caves, the trail transitions into a globally rare ecosystem of dwarf pitch pine barrens before opening up to a spectacular cliff overlook of the 187-foot Verkeerderkill Falls.

### Safety & Waitlist Policy
Because of the rugged nature of this terrain—including narrow cliff edges and technical fissures—everyone will initially be placed on the waitlist.
To ensure the safety of the group and prevent anyone from becoming stranded on the technical sections, we will move hikers to the "Going" list based on:
- Prior experience with this group on strenuous hikes.
- Confirmed ability to handle 7+ miles at a 2.5 mph pace, including significant technical maneuvering.
Our goal is to keep the group cohesive and ensure everyone finishes the loop safely.

### Essential Gear
- Boots: Sturdy hiking boots with high-traction soles are required (rock surfaces can be slippery even when dry).
- Trekking Poles: Highly recommended for balance on uneven rock and crevices.
- Safety: Small personal First Aid kit.
- Hydration: Minimum of 2 liters of water.
- Sun Protection: Significant portions of the ridge are fully exposed; bring a hat and sunscreen.

### Logistics
- Parking: Sam's Point at Minnewaska is extremely popular. Please arrive 20–30 minutes early to secure a spot. Note the $10 vehicle entry fee (or use your Empire Pass).
- Weather: High winds or wet conditions will necessitate a reschedule, as the cliff-side rock becomes hazardous when slick.
