Weekend Walk #12: Monsanto turns 91 - SPECIAL EVENT
Details
Join us for a special Weekend Walk to celebrate 91 years of Monsanto!
We will start at the Parque do Calhau and follow the Blue Route, circling around Serafina to pass by the Miradouro Panorâmico and navigate some mountain biking trails to get to the Pista Rua Fria.
From there, we'll divert to the Monsanto Visitor Center to celebrate 91 years of Monsanto with a magusto: a traditional Portuguese get-together with roasted chestnuts to celebrate the beginning of fall and fresh lemonade and juice made with herbs found in the forest (more information here).
Feel free to stay as long as you like and/or continue back to the starting point at your leisure.
The group size for this walk is intentionally small to support a comfortable, familiar atmosphere. If you have secured a place but are unable to attend, please update your RSVP at least 24 hours in advance.
If you are running late, please send me a personal message and we will do our best to wait for you. Otherwise, we will begin walking at 15:05 latest to respect everyone's time. You're also welcome to join us directly at the Visitor Center from 17:00.
Distance and duration
This circular route is roughly 7.7km in total. After approximately 1.5 hours we should reach the Visitor Center, leaving another 30 minutes to get back to the starting point.
Meeting / ending point
🚗: Parking lot "Monsanto East - Campolide"
🚌: A 10-minute walk from both Sete Rios and Campolide stations. There are also bus options from both stations that will drop you near the parking lot.
What to bring:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- At least 0.5L of water

Out of respect to the group and nature, please be prepared to stow your phone and keep it on silent for the duration of the walk.
Important notes:
- The walk will take place even if there is a chance of light rain - bring your rain jacket!
- If the trails are compromised due to long periods of rain leading up to the date, and/or the forecast calls for lightning or heavy rain, I will cancel the walk before midnight the night before.
All of the Monsanto Morning Walks are, and will always be, free! If you would like to contribute to the costs of running the group on Meetup, feel free to donate whatever feels right for you on any walk you join. All contributions will go directly toward creating more events.
See you in the park!
