Pseudologia phantastica—a peculiar talent for believing one's own lies. Quite often the "great plan" plays the leading role. It is part and parcel of the pathological liar's make-up to be plausible. It is only when it comes to the ticklish question of bringing this plan into reality that every opportunity is exploited and any means is good enough, on the principle that "the end justifies the means." Things only become dangerous when the pathological liar is taken seriously by a wider public.
—Jung "After the Catastrophe," Civilization in Transition, CW10 paras 420–421 [1945]
