What we’re about
The Sunset Club is for people who enjoy sunsets. Because the weather is so unpredictable (clouds & fog vs. clear skies), we meet up when we think that we'll have a visible sunset. We shoot for full moon risings, summer events, and weekends. It's a great group to share your sunset photos after our Meetups, and we encourage you to post them on our Facebook page ("Monterey Peninsula Sunset Club"). The club offers people a way to experience sunsets from various locations around the peninsula: Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel, and Seaside. It's also a great way to meet new friends. Join us if you want to expand your appreciation of sunsets, meet others who do too, and learn of locations to catch amazing sunsets in the future.
We'll try to choose different locations, but there will be some locations that will be repeated just because they are so amazing and accessible. Members are encouraged to suggest locations, which will allow all of us new opportunities to enjoy sunsets.
There are several other Sunset Clubs throughout California (LA, Orange County, Santa Cruz, and Sacramento). There are 2 in Washington (Seattle and Mukilteo) and 1 in McCall, Idaho. Each club has a Facebook group page (e.g. Sacramento Sunset Club, Mukilteo Sunset Club, etc.) to share photos and sunset club gathering opportunities. We will promote the gatherings on both FB and MeetUp.
The concept of the Sunset Club started in college at Loyola Marymount University (many moons ago) as a way to get together with friends and enjoy the sunset on a bluff overlooking Marina Del Rey and Venice Beach. We started off with 5 members in 1986 and grew to 150-200 people in 1990 gathering every other Friday night.
We're interested in collaborating with other groups who also are interested in enjoying sunsets in amazing natural settings, so don't hesitate to reach out to co-sponsor a gathering.
