*Veracity in the Age of Persuasive AI*
A presentation by Taylor Lynn Curtis, researcher on misinformation at Mila.

​This presentation addresses the growing tension between AI's capacity for persuasion and the imperative for ethical deployment. I will begin by exploring the challenges inherent in AI systems designed to influence or modify user behaviour. I will then pivot to a proactive approach, discussing Veracity, a real-world tool I developed for using AI itself to ensure data quality and user protection, specifically through detecting and mitigating misinformation. Finally, I will translate the discussion into specific insights for the responsible governance of AI.

​Cette présentation porte sur la tension croissante entre la capacité de persuasion de l’IA et l’impératif d’un déploiement éthique. Je commencerai par explorer les défis inhérents aux systèmes d’IA conçus pour influencer ou modifier le comportement des utilisateurs. Je passerai ensuite à une approche proactive en présentant Veracity, un outil concret que j’ai développé pour utiliser l’IA elle-même afin d’assurer la qualité des données et la protection des usagers, notamment en détectant et en atténuant la désinformation. Enfin, je traduirai cette discussion en pistes précises pour une gouvernance responsable de l’IA.​
