### Why Is It So Hard to Reach Out First?

The vulnerability of making the first move in friendship
You meet someone you like.
You have a good conversation.
You say, “We should do this again sometime.”
And then… nobody texts.
Reaching out first can feel surprisingly vulnerable — especially after immigration, when your social circle is smaller and every new connection can feel like it matters more.
You may worry:

  • What if they don’t actually want to see me?
  • What if I seem needy?
  • What if I’m always the one making an effort?
  • When does initiative become chasing someone?

In this support group, we’ll gently explore what makes taking the next step in friendship feel difficult — and how to tell the difference between healthy initiative and one-sided effort.
We’ll reflect on:

  • what makes reaching out feel vulnerable;
  • what we tell ourselves when someone doesn’t respond;
  • how reciprocity can look in real life;
  • how to make a small invitation without turning it into a test of whether someone likes you.

There will be a short workshop-style reflection and plenty of space for conversation and optional sharing.
This is not about becoming more outgoing or forcing yourself to socialize. It’s a space to understand yourself better, hear how others experience the same thing, and leave with one small, realistic next step.
