ACTING FOR FREEDOM

A 6-Session Course in Applied Acting for Personal Development
Facilitator: Nikolai Afanasev

Tuesdays & Sundays, July 8 – August 1st
6:15 – 8:15 pm

This course uses the tools of acting — not to make you a performer, but to help you become more free.
Free in your body. Free in your voice. Free from the habits, fears, and fixed ideas about yourself that quietly run the show.
Over six sessions, you'll explore the foundational practices of great acting teachers — Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, Michael Chekhov, Augusto Boal — applied not to the stage, but to your real life: your relationships, your work, your sense of self.

You'll learn to:
— Move and speak with more presence and ease
— Name and express your emotions with more clarity
— Listen and connect more authentically
— Try on different qualities and bring the best ones home
— Use your voice to be heard — not louder, but truer

No acting experience needed. No performance required.

The course ends with a short sharing of original monologues and scenes — but the real culminating activity is noticing what's shifted in you.

Schedule:
July 8 — Overview, History & Foundations
July 13 — Physicality
July 20 — Emotional Life
July 27 — Voice & Imagination
July 29 — Scene Work & Creativity
August 1 — Integration & Culminating Performances

This is a safe, confidential, and playful space. You'll be encouraged to take risks and supported when you do. I aim to be responsive to the people in the room, especially when we work on your monologue and scenes, where the work becomes uniquely yours.

Prepare to reflect, take notes, do embodied work, and brainstorm.
