I have received this email from MEETUP
Dear Mi_Kmaq, (That's me Philippe Côté. from The way of the circle Shamanic community)
We’re writing to inform you about an upcoming change that may affect your group’s member count, effective January 15, 2026.
In line with the GDPR’s data protection principles, we will deactivate accounts belonging to users who have been inactive on Meetup for the past three years. By “inactive,” we mean users who have not interacted with the platform in any way — including emails, the mobile apps, or the website.
Before taking this step, we contacted all affected users to give them the opportunity to re-engage. Any user who has since interacted with that email will not have their account deleted.
As a result of this intervention, you may notice a one-off decrease in your group’s member count. While this change may look sudden, it reflects the removal of long-inactive accounts rather than a drop in active participation.
We also want to reassure you that total historical member count is not used as a ranking metric for groups on Meetup. Group visibility and ranking are based on a combination of factors such as activity, engagement, and overall quality, among others — so this change will not negatively impact how groups are surfaced.
Going forward, the same inactivity rules will continue to apply, but account removals will happen much more gradually over time.
