Let's go to MOAB, MMBs!
We're heading back to Moab for a long weekend of riding, with everything from one of the biggest point-to-point rides in Moab to family-friendly desert singletrack.
Come for the whole weekend or join us for whatever fits your schedule.
This is a social club weekend, not a guided trip. Riders are responsible for choosing terrain appropriate for their ability, carrying the necessary food, water, tools and supplies, and having offline access to the routes.
FRIDAY – ARRIVAL & DINNER
Get into town, get settled and get the bikes ready.
6:00 PM – Pasta Jay's
We'll kick off the weekend over dinner, meet everyone and go over Saturday's Whole Enchilada plans.
SATURDAY – THE WHOLE ENCHILADA
Saturday is our big ride.
Advanced | 20–30+ miles depending on starting point | BIG descent
The Whole Enchilada is one of the iconic mountain-bike rides in the country, connecting high-alpine terrain above Moab with technical desert riding all the way down to the Colorado River.
We'll have two starting options:
Full Whole Enchilada: Take the shuttle to the top and ride the entire thing, including Burro Pass → Hazard County → Kokopelli → UPS → LPS → Porcupine Rim.
Lower Start: For riders who want to skip the high-alpine Burro/Hazard portion, we'll have the option to join the ride between Hazard and Kokopelli, meeting the full-WE group there before continuing together.
Final starting locations will depend on trail and weather conditions.
This is a long, technical backcountry ride. Expect sustained descending, rocks, ledges, exposure, punchy climbs and plenty of places where Moab reminds you that downhill does not necessarily mean easy.
COME PREPARED:
Bring your full trail kit for this ride.
That means tire repair, tube, pump/CO₂, tools, quick-link, basic first aid and whatever else you need to be self-sufficient.
Bring lunch and enough ride food for a long day.
And bring MORE WATER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED. I will personally be carrying 3 liters, and I recommend planning conservatively. Once we're out there, we're out there.
Knee/elbow protection is strongly recommended.
The Whole Enchilada requires a commercial shuttle and there will be a small additional shuttle fee. It's worth it.
Shuttle details and cost will be posted as we get closer.
SUNDAY – GROUP RIDE
We'll pick one primary Sunday ride as a group based on everyone's interest, legs and conditions.
We'll take a vote as the weekend approaches. Stay tuned to the MMB WhatsApp group for the vote, final route, and meeting details.
(If you're attending and aren't currently in the WhatsApp group, reach out to me directly and I'll get you added.)
Routes under consideration include:
MAG 7 – POISON SPIDER EXIT
Advanced | ~25–30 miles
One of Moab's classic point-to-point rides.
Expect fast desert singletrack early before things become increasingly technical through Gold Bar Rim and Golden Spike.
Our planned finish would be Poison Spider, NOT Portal.
This preserves the technical character of the full Mag 7 experience while avoiding the extremely exposed Portal descent.
Mag 7 requires a commercial shuttle and a small additional shuttle fee. Again: worth it.
MAG 5 / UPPER MAG 7
Intermediate+ / Advanced | ~10–20 miles depending on route
A shorter option using trails such as Getaway, Bull Run, Arth's Corner, Great Escape and Little Canyon without committing to the Gold Bar/Golden Spike end of Mag 7.
Lots of excellent Moab singletrack and slickrock with plenty of ways to adjust the route.
Depending on our route, this may also require a shuttle and small additional fee.
NAVAJO ROCKS
Intermediate / Intermediate+ | ~17–18 miles full loop
One of Moab's best all-around trail systems.
Rolling slickrock, fast singletrack, short technical sections and spectacular views. The full loop makes a substantial ride, but the system also gives us options to shorten things if Saturday has taken a toll.
CAPTAIN AHAB / HYMASA
Advanced / Expert | ~9 miles
Shorter mileage does NOT mean easy.
Expect a sustained technical climb followed by one of Moab's signature technical descents: slickrock, ledges, drops, line choice and plenty of opportunities to test tired legs.
GEMINI BRIDGES AREA
Intermediate+ / Advanced
The Gemini Bridges area gives us a lot of flexibility to build a ride using portions of the Mag 7 network without necessarily committing to the full Mag 7.
Great scenery, classic desert terrain and lots of possibilities depending on what the group wants.
OTHER OPTIONS
Moab has no shortage of them. If conditions or the group point us somewhere else, we have plenty of alternatives.
We'll vote on WhatsApp.
MONDAY – CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE / FAMILY DAY
Monday is deliberately flexible.
For anyone sticking around, we'll mix things up with shorter and more approachable rides. Families, spouses and younger riders are encouraged to join.
We'll decide what makes sense based on who is still in town, ability levels and what everyone has already ridden.
KLONDIKE BLUFFS
Beginner → Advanced
Our leading family-day option.
Klondike gives us an enormous amount of flexibility. Trails like Jurassic, Jasper and Dino Flow provide approachable desert riding, while stronger riders can branch onto trails like Baby Steps, EKG, Mega Steps and Alaska.
We can build anything from a short family ride to a much bigger technical loop, and the dinosaur tracks don't hurt.
RAPTOR ROUTE
Intermediate / Intermediate+
Another great possibility for Monday.
The Raptor Route strings together newer trails on the south side of Moab, can be configured in several ways, and each leg intersects Sand Flats Road for easy bailout if desired. Expect fast, flowy desert singletrack mixed with enough rocks and technical features to keep things interesting.
This could be a particularly good option for riders looking for something different after the classic Moab systems.
MOAB BRANDS / BAR-M
Beginner → Intermediate+
Brands remains one of the best places in Moab for mixed abilities, with trails ranging from easy family-friendly riding to more technical options.
Many of us have ridden Bar-M/Brands several times already, though, so if we ride here, expect me to mix it up rather than simply repeat our usual route.
NAVAJO ROCKS
Intermediate
If we don't ride it Sunday, Navajo Rocks remains an excellent Monday possibility.
We don't necessarily need to ride the entire loop. Half-loop combinations can make for a great shorter ride with plenty of slickrock and classic Moab scenery.
AND WHATEVER ELSE SOUNDS GOOD...
Monday is intentionally loose.
If somebody has been staring at a trail all weekend thinking, “I really want to ride that,” this is the day to make it happen.
Split into groups. Ride something new. Take the family out. Go chase another technical trail. Or ride for an hour and start the drive home.
FOOD
FRIDAY – 6:00 PM
Pasta Jay's
Our official kickoff dinner.
We'll coordinate the rest of the weekend's meals as we get closer, but some good options around town include:
Trailhead Public House & Eatery – Casual burgers, sandwiches and pub food.
The Spoke on Center – Burgers, salads and a casual downtown atmosphere.
The Broken Oar – Hearty post-ride American food.
The Blu Pig – BBQ and live music.
Thai Bella – Excellent Thai and a good break from burgers/pizza.
Desert Bistro – A nicer dinner option for smaller groups.
A FEW FINAL NOTES
October in Moab can mean everything from warm desert sun to snow at elevation. Come prepared for changing conditions.
For the bigger rides, bring:
• Full repair kit
• Spare tube regardless of whether you're tubeless
• Plenty of food
• Electrolytes
• More water than you think you need
• Layers
• Basic first aid
• Offline trail maps
• Charged phone
• Appropriate protective gear
The Whole Enchilada and Mag 5/7 involve commercial shuttles with a small additional cost. We'll coordinate those as a group. They're absolutely worth it.
Walk whatever you aren't comfortable riding. Nobody gets a trophy for sending something they shouldn't.
Most importantly, this is an MMB weekend. We're going to ride some incredible trails, hang out with good people and have a hell of a time in Moab.
RSVP, save the date, and keep an eye on WhatsApp as we get closer!
