German Romanticism & "Living Poetically"

Details

Dear all,

This a reminder that we will meet for the 5th session of "Søren Kierkegaard - Subjectivity, Irony and the Crisis of Modernity."

To recap from last session, we touched on the following related topics: the crucial distinction between subjective and objective truth, German Romanticism as a modern form of irony, Heiberg's conception of history as oscillating between periods of crisis and stability, and the world historic role of the ironist during periods of crisis. We also made a very interesting connection with Donald Trump as a kind of ironist!

Today, we'll revisit the distinction between objective and subjective truth, take a closer at the German Romantic movement and the notion of "Living Poetically," and Kierkegaard's criticism of the Romantics' form of irony. We will end with Kierkegaard's call for a new form of irony in the modern world.

All interesting topics! You don't have to be a specialist to take part. And you can leave today's session with a better understanding of Kierkegaard's and his role in helping us understand the modern world

See you later!

Elyas
