21st Annual EARTH DAY Work-Day & Potluck BBQ
Date: Saturday, April 18th, 2026 Time: 8:30am-1:00pm
Place: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale 33304
Open to all ages, kids must have an adult

We are very excited to celebrate our 21st year of service with our Annual Earth Day Work-Day & Potluck BBQ on Saturday, April 18th from 8:30am-1pm at the Picnic Benches by the Primitive Camping Area around the west side of the park, where we normally do Tequesta Drum Circle. This year we will be removing invasive species from the trails around the Primitive Camp. The event will be open to anyone to participate. Please bring bags and gloves for invasive plant remove and garbage pickup.

This is a potluck BBQ, so please bring either a salad, side dish, healthy dessert or a beverage and ice. We will definitely be trying to be as environmentally conscious and responsible as possible, we will have hamburger, chicken dogs, veggie burgers, condiments, reusable cutlery, plates, cups, napkins, etc. PLEASE do bring a refillable water bottle as the park is trying to discourage the use of plastics generally but single use especially.

Please come prepared to work. Bring gloves and wear clothes appropriate for working in the park with brush and other plants around (closed shoes, long pants and shirts, hats, bug spray, sunscreen, gloves, etc.). Also bring a bathing suit and towel as well if you want to go for a swim after we are done.

SCHEDULE
8:30am – Gather at the Picnic Tables in the Primitive Camping Area, drop off your donation to the potluck, we will have a safety talk and give directions on what we will be doing
9-11:30am – We will make our way from the Picnic area to the trail area to be given directions for what we will be helping with.
noon-1pm – BBQ lunch at the Picnic Tables in the Primitive Camping Area, where Tequesta Drum Circle is held.

We will organize into two teams - the Cooks and the Workers. PLEASE RSVP for the BBQ by email or phone. If you want to help in the kitchen let us know in advance as there are a limited number of people required for this job. We will supply water, chick dogs, hamburgers, boca burgers, condiments, reuseable plates and cutlery.
