CANCELED - Global Day of Code Retreat 2017 - Morgantown

Details

Update - Nov 9, 2017 - Due to a WVU football game near RDC and low RSVP numbers, we've decided to cancel this event. Get ready for a different kind of software development event! Morgantown Codes will be hosting an event as part of the Global Day of Code Retreat 2017 on November 18th, 2017. So, what exactly is a code retreat? A code retreat is a collaborative programming event designed to encourage pairs of developers to explore programming in different ways.
We'll use Conway's Game of Life (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway%27s_Game_of_Life) to explore different programming ideas in a zero-cost environment.

A code retreat typically consists of six rounds lasting approximately an hour. The first 45 minutes of the round is spent implementing Conway's Game of Life with a partner. You'll be given some sort of constraint on your implementation each round following the first (ex. no if statements, unit tests for everything, etc). You'll delete your code at the end of your coding session and spend the last 15 minutes discussing what you've learned with others. You'll pick another partner and repeat. Code retreats are an opportunity to explore new ideas in code with new friends as well as an opportunity to explore new languages. We'll spend time that morning getting to know each other by introducing ourselves, talking about interests, and sharing languages we're fluent in as well as languages we're interested in. This event is all day and completely free. My objective is to provide a light breakfast and lunch to attendees as well. I'll add details as they materialize.
