Time: About 3.5 hours to 4 hours
Description: A 6-mile hike of moderate intensity with 1000-foot vertical gain. The hike
will start on 4 Birds Trail with stops at the "bat cave" and an old cemetery. The hike will
continue to the Hawk Watch and after passing the Beaver Pond will descend back to
the parking location. Most of the climbing will be in the first half of the hike.
Important Notes for the hike:
- The meeting location is at the intersection of Green Pond Road and Lower
Hibernia Road. The intersection is 2.8 miles from on Green Pond Road after
exiting Route 80. There are parking lots on both sides of lower Hibernia Road. (Turn at the sign pictured above)
2. Hiking boots are recommended.
3. Daypack to carry extra clothing, sufficient water and your snack.
4. Bring Insect repellent.
5. No bathroom facilities at the hike location so plan to stop at Dunkin or
Hibernia Diner before you arrive
6. The hike location is about a 25-minute ride from the VFW meeting location.
7. After the hike we may go to a nearby bar and grill (Rockaway River Barn)
