MCSC Hike: Ramapo Lake

Time: About 4 hours

Description: This will be a 6-mile lollipop hike that will go along Ramapo Lake to the
Van Castle Ruins. After descending we will then walk along the lake and finally go back
to the meeting spot. There are 2 climbs on this hike, a long moderate climb at the start
and a short steep climb to the ruins. Most of the climbing will be in the first half of the
hike.

Important Notes for the hike:
1. The meeting location is Back Beach Park. The location is about 2 miles from
Route 287 Exit 55
2. Hiking boots are recommended.
3. Daypack to carry extra clothing, sufficient water and your snack.
4. No bathroom facilities at the hike location so plan to stop at Stop and Shop,
Burger King or Little Falls Grill which you will pass after exiting Route 287
before you arrive
5. The hike location is about a 30-minute ride from the VFW meeting location.
6. After the hike we may go to a nearby bar and grill.
