About us

International folk dancing is a warm and inviting style of dance built on inherited tradition and the natural human desire for social interaction. Partners are not needed. Dress is casual. Largely informal and welcoming to newcomers of all levels, folk dancing can be learned with a little observation and a bit of repetition. Our dances come from the Balkans (i.e. Romania, Bulgaria, Greece), Israel, Turkey, Russia, and other countries. The Morristown Folk Dancers (MFD), have been encouraging and teaching people to enjoy folk dancing for many years as one of the longest running folk dance groups in New Jersey. For more information, contact 973-228-5966 or 973-262-4095. Or contact us via email:  Marcia - marcia.schran{at.sign.here}gmail.com. Our website is: "http://njfolkdance.atwebpages.com/fd_morristown.html". In addition to our regular weekly sessions, we enjoy dance parties and celebrations during the year. We meet every Wednesday, year round. We have between 12 and 35 dancers every Wednesday.
From fall through spring, we have teaching midway through evening, followed by open and request dancing. In the summer months there is usually no teaching. Beginners are, of course, always welcome. We will help you learn our dances at any time of year. So whether or not you have tried folk dancing before, come join us. Experience other cultures through music and dance. We would be delighted to meet you! There is a nominal cost of $10, but for newcomers, your first session is free. So come check us out! We hope to see you soon.
