"Marc Maron: Are We Good?" at AMC Southpoint in Durham
Details
Comedian Marc Maron has been everywhere this year as he winds down his groundbreaking podcast "WTF" after sixteen years. Maron knocked around the comedy scene for years before being the morning show "funny guy" on the short-lived Air America radio network. Getting fired from AAR three times led to the podcast, which led to larger venues for stand-up, three TV series (Maron, GLOW, and now the golf comedy Stick), Netflix and HBO specials, and a well-received acting career. He'll be seen as record producer Chuck Plotkin in the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic.
Marc Maron isn't everyone's cuppa tea. He's irascible, neurotic, cerebral, a raconteur who rants and muses rather than tell jokes. But when his brand of comedy is your thing, well, there's a reason I call him my zen master.
This documentary chronicles Maron's career and his journey through grief to healing following the death of his partner, director Lynn Shelton, back in 2020 as COVID was just taking hold in the US. Reviews have been positive:
"A scrappy portrait of grief" -- Hollywood Reporter
"a hopeful film that shows us all that there is life after death, and humor can be found even in the darkest of times." -- Austin Chronicle
"a film about making sense of unthinkable loss during unprecedented times." -- The Daily Beast
This is an informal and open event. Bring a guest if you want. Bring two. As long as you have tickets, the more the merrier. It's possible I may have a friend or two with me. I've already bought my ticket to this screening; I'll be in Row G Seat 9 if anyone wants to join me. The link to buy your ticket is here:

I hope to see some of you there. If anyone wants to get together for a quick bite before the movie we can set that up closer to the event.
PS -- the cat in the photo is named Sammy Red. Yes, I'm THAT kind of fan.
