Historical Hike w/ Picnic: C&O Towpath in Hancock, MD

Details

This ~4.5mile easy hike is nearly both all flat & paved. Pace: 3mph. The trek traverses the town of Hancock. After a meander on Main Street the hike wanders along the Western MD Rail Trail then bops by the Bowels House, which offers an opportunity to "stand in a lock". Latter of the circuit spurs to the ruins of a lachrymose Lock (#51) House before paralleling the Potomac river, eventually viewing lustrous lily pads. The trek concludes with a BYO picnic for Lunch (tables, grills, & restrooms available). Highlights include a pocket park, a tiny trestle, & an apt aqueduct*. A historical hike!

NOTES:
1. Trail Forecast= Town map | Parking/ MEET SPOT @ lot furthest from the boat ramp. Picnic area has a puny path that passes a terrific Tree & Swim Spot. Please consider bringing a lawn chair/ picnic blanket as seating is limited.
2. Aqueduct*= A mini- scramble loop traversing underneath may be available for anyone interested.
3. Acquire a perfect PIE & other custom crafts @Blue Goose market.
4. This event is cross- listed, RSVP w/ only 1 Meetup.

A 'yes/ attending' RSVP is your digital signature that you've read, understood, & agreed to the Liability Wavier hyperlinked here.
