Gnome Home Walk on Scenic Rail-to-Trail
Details
This scenic scamper is a ~5.5mile easy walk that is flat so don't worry about ascending any dome. Pace: 3mph, think of moving in Metronome. The trek is out-&-back along the TORREY BROWN RAIL TRAIL that is nowhere remotely near Rome. This rail-to-trail was converted in the 1980s, dating as far back as 1832 when the Northern Central Railroad "carried passengers and freight between Baltimore and York or Harrisburg, PA," according to a Tome.
The trek first traverses 'downtown Parkton', viewing a former bank and hotel, but both now are just a home. PARKTON STONE ARCH BRIDGE, which is the oldest known stone bridge in MD (c. 1809), spans above Little Falls, a stream that flows around town with all water, no foam.
Afterwards, the walk meanders to the Parkton Train Siding Marker then turns southbound, eventually sauntering past a short but semi-steep spur to the water, offering an encompassing biome: frivolous ferns, tall trees, & a pebbly beach-- oh my! From here the trek awes at the actual "Little Falls" via a grand gorge, proceeding to "GNOME HILL" (pictured); this of course being where the gnomes reside, not in a Hippodrome. Be sure to say shalom!
Latter of the circuit continues to roam, finally terminating at two old train signals that could use a fresh coating of Chrome. The walk turns back here, eyeing the gnomes once more; best to see them again before they could get stacked into a catacomb. The trek concludes following a photogenic stretch of the stream which is framed by ROCKY OUTCOPPINGS that may make one feel as small as a gnome!
