Mid-State Trail Care: An Afternoon of Maintenance and Stewardship
Jo Hays Vista, 100 MID State Trl, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA, USThe Sierra Club Moshannon Group has joined with the Mid State Trail Association to help maintain the trail from Jo Hayes Vista to Indian Steps. Join us for our fall trail maintenance on the Mid-State Trail. We will meet at the Jo Hayes Vista Parking Lot at noon, on Sunday October 26th, where we will go over all the details of our hike and clean-up. We will have extra gloves and tools to carry for cutting and picking up branches. During our fall walk, we will use tools to cut growth that impedes safe walking on the trail. We also clear away large branches that are on the path. This hike requires some physical work.
This is a very rocky and rough ridge trail, so wearing good boots is highly encouraged. This hike has great views, and we will stop at the intersection of the Mid-State Trail and Indian Steps Trail for a snack break. This hike will be about 4 hours long with 6 miles of hiking, so please bring plenty of water and snacks.
You can formally register for the event in advance.
*Note: All Sundays from September 14th onward are now open for hunting in PA State Forests and Game lands. Please make sure to wear bright colors for our time on the trail.
