We're back! After a long hiatus from the pandemic and a ton of online content, we'll have our own (still online!) meetup with a talk and discussion after. While the amount of online sessions have been almost overwhelming, I've realized that I missed our group and the discussions we have, and it's hard to get that with a huge online meetup! So hopefully you can join us for our first talk!

Introduction To Thinking In Models: Getting The Big Picture

Using models to communicate plans, exchange ideas, explore options, and make decisions is a powerful skill that will serve you well in your career. This is a quick but useful introduction to the concepts of Model Thinking. You will leave with a "mental model" of how to learn more about these topics and how to apply them in your career.

About The Presentation

Many of the soft skills that employers want to see on your resume are a natural result of Thinking in Models. Models help you develop skills like: Problem-solving, Critical thinking, Conceptual Thinking, Communication, Teamwork, Decision-making, Organization, Adaptability, Collaboration, and Forecasting.

This sixty-minute session will give you the insight you need to start Thinking in Models. And from there, to build experience in the soft skills that employers want and need. The presentation will introduce you to a simple understanding of Models. Then, we review Loop Learning to help you apply models in your daily activities. The presentation will finish with a modeling overview of Systems Thinking and Complexity Theory.

The presentation will help anyone preparing for a job search. Recent graduates, struggling to make sense of what they learned, can learn how to merge information into useful model. Thereby building a model career. People transitioning into a new industry or profession can use model thinking to ramp up their understanding of the business.
