Our group is perfect for people who want to discover and hike on trails or off trails in the Irish Mountains.
Ever wanted to learn the skills you need to become a competent navigator in the Irish mountains, the UK, the Alps or beyond ! As a fully qualified, insured professional mountain guide and a course provider for Mountaineering Ireland and the UK, I run Mountain Skills courses. Mountain Skills 1 and 2 is a nationally accredited course and is delivered over 2 x 2 days tuition in an upland environment.
The aim of this course is to help you learn the skills you need to get out hiking in the hills and mountains independently, safely and responsibly. You will learn how to navigate with confidence during day time or night time using: a map, a compass and additional skills. In addition to this, you will learn about mountain hazards, hiking on steep ground, hypothermia, mountain environment, timing, route planning, emergency procedures, and much more.
