Marriottsville Area - 6 miles with 600 ft of climb

Landfill day. This hike is expected to be about 6-ish miles in length with 600-ish feet of elevation gain. We'll aim for a walking speed of about 2 - 2 1/2 MPH.

Please don't sign up for this hike unless you've recently completed a similar hike. The mother Mountain Club (mcomd.org) offers several hikes a week of varying difficulty. Check it out for other options.

We'll optionally bushwhack a short distance (0.1 mile?) to the area where the RR diverted the river to minimize the number of required bridges. Happily the diversion created the McKeldin Rapids. Those who want to avoid bushwhacking can wait for us and we'll pick them on our return to the parking area.

Here's where we'll meet: +39.3516509; -76.8989807: Near (not at) 714 Marriottsville Road 21104. Parking is limited so carpool if you can. If there are enough willing to carpool, the current limit may be increased.

Note that we do not wait for latecomers so please plan ahead.

We'll have a snack break mid-hike and an optional stream-side brownbag lunch after the hike.
