Pedernales Falls State Park TRAIL BUILDING, CAMPING & RIDING WEEKEND December 27-29

Austin Ridge Riders trail building project to bring new trail at the park. Come for all or part of the weekend.

NO TRAIL BUILDING EXPERIENCE NEEDED!

Austin Ridge Riders provides tools, guidance, food & prizes for volunteers. Volunteers get into the park and camp for free on trail building days.

If it's been a long time since you have built trail, or if you have never built trail, please give it a try. It's very rewarding to see a new trail take shape that many riders will enjoy for years to come.

If it's your first time building trail, you may be surprised how fun and rewarding it is to be part of building a trail that will be enjoyed by future riders for generations.

Hopefully we will have a large enough crowd to break up into multiple crews. Limbs need to be dragged up hill into the flats with cut ends away from the trail. We will also be removing stumps with Pulaskis and Rogue hoes.

The focus for Phase 1 of the project is finishing about 5 miles of new trail. Thanks to a crew of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, all of Phase 1 has had at least one pass of saws to clear the corridor. Most of the cut limbs have also been cleared from the tread, but some limbs remain on the tread and others are laying right along the tread. We need lots of help to drag limbs off the corridor (uphill onto the poorly drained flats, cut end away from trail).

After clearing the tread of cut limbs, the next focus is removing stumps. Preferably, the entire root ball can be removed by use of leverage (stumps have been left at a length to accommodate this) using a Pulaski or Rogue Hoe. If the stump cant be dug out and/or is embedded in solid rock, the dirt is cleared and it can be sawed off flush later.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves if you have them. We have extra gloves for those who need them. Bring your hydration pack or water jug to carry with you. We will be dragging cut limbs off the trail and clearing the trail corridor.

This section of trail is almost ready to ride. Let's get it done!

Bring camping gear, a chair and bring your bike. Showers will be available at the main campground.

We have made arrangement with the park to use the Sponsored Youth Group Camp. Plenty of parking and space to camp as well as our own section of the Pedernales River.
