Ready to trade the gym plastic for Shawangunk grit? The Mountaineering Club of New York is teaming up with Alpine Endeavors for a full-day introduction to outdoor rock climbing.

This event is specifically curated for two types of adventurers:
The Strong Hiker: You have the "mountain legs" and the fitness, but you're looking to move from steep hiking to vertical terrain.
The Gym Climber: You’re comfortable in the climbing gym but want to learn the nuances of real rock—understanding gear, outdoor ethics, and how to manage the exposure of the Gunks.

What to Expect
This is a fully guided instructional day. We will focus on the movements, belaying in an outdoor setting, and safety systems. Under the professional supervision of Alpine Endeavors guides, you’ll get plenty of time on the rock to build your confidence.

Why this trip matters
If you are looking to join the club on future rock climbing excursions, please take note: This guided trip is a mandatory prerequisite for any future (unguided) club rock climbing trips for members who do not have documented outdoor rock experience. We want to ensure everyone in our community has a shared foundation of safety and technique before we head out as a peer group.

All climbing gear included!

Transportation
Meet at Rock and Snow in New Paltz at 8:30 AM to organize gear, then we carpool to the climbing location. A shuttle from New Paltz may be arranged at additional cost depending on the final group size.

Drive from NYC to New Paltz (about 1.5 hours)
Or take the 7:00 AM Trailways bus from Port Authority to New Paltz, then walk 10 minutes to Rock and Snow

Pricing
$200 for members* / $225 for non-members

*In order to qualify for member pricing, you must be a paid member of the club (memberships start at $25). Visit our website to register as a member. You'll receive an automated email (please check your spam folder) with your promo code to apply the discount when RSVPing.
