Following his breakthrough film BOOGIE NIGHTS, Paul Thomas Anderson returned to the fertile ground of 1970s Los Angeles with his adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel INHERENT VICE. Burnout detective Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix), when not being harassed by lawman Bigfoot (Josh Brolin), ambles through a byzantine plot involving his old lady Shasta Fay, the levers of power and corruption, and the last remnants of the counterculture in this absurdist detective story.
