What we’re about
Welcome to our dynamic networking event for filmmakers, actors and film enthusiasts! Meeting every Wednesday at the Emporium food court, we've built a thriving community that hasn't missed a single week in the last year.
Our gatherings are designed to foster collaboration and inspiration. Whether you're a newcomer seeking advice, a professional looking to connect with peers, or a film lover wanting to join the conversation, you'll find your place here. Our crowd consistently includes 30+ attendees each week, a mix of new faces and returning regulars, creating an ever-evolving and diverse community.
We are open, inclusive, and democratic. Although we don't have a specific weekly agenda, our casual conversations have sparked productive relationships, and many projects, among our members.
We're just a vibrant group of like-minded individuals united by our love for filmmaking. Starting at 5 PM, our meetup goes from the casual atmosphere of the Emporium food court to a nearby bar/restaurant at 7 PM, turning into an evening of networking and conversation that can last all night.
Join us, RSVP to our next meetup, and become part of our rapidly growing network of film enthusiasts and professionals. The relationships you build here can last far beyond Wednesday nights!
## 📢 The 3rd Annual Movie Mutuals Screening (2025) is CONFIRMED!
Each year our community caps off the calendar with a public showcase of short films. It is equal parts a premiere night, networking hub, and celebration of Melbourne’s indie film scene.
Last year we packed out ACMI, screening more than a dozen shorts. This year we’re going even bigger: a larger cinema, twice the time, located in the CBD with of course a bar, all for the same ticket price.

## 🎬 Call for Submissions
I’m announcing this well in advance, giving you three months’ notice for film submissions, so there’s plenty of time to finish your current project or even start a new one.
We proudly showcase home-grown talent. As always, submissions for our annual screening are FREE. Owing to last year's high volume of entries, this year's lineup will be curated by the previous four voted-on Mutuals of the Year winners, who will decide their own selection process. Preference will be given to filmmakers who meet the following criteria:
- Writer and Director are community members The writer and director should be active participants in our weekly Movie Mutuals meet-ups, and the majority of cast and crew should also come from our community. Films made by and with regular attendees will be favored.
- Keep it short Please keep your film to approx 15 minutes or less (including credits). Shorter entries that leave room for more titles in the program will be favored.
- Multiple submissions allowed You may submit more than one film, but it is likely that only one film per filmmaker will be selected. Short trailers of unreleased films are also welcome.
- Nominate your VASSAL and supply a poster With entry, please provide an image of your film’s poster (it will appear on the voting box at the event) and nominate one VASSAL: someone you feel made an outstanding contribution to the production.
- Deadline To be considered, make sure your film is fully submitted by 31 October.
Submit your film via DM @kai.vygor or email kai_vygor@hotmail.com.
