TRIVIA:

  • The prominent 15 Moai of Ahu Tongariki were toppled during the islands civil wars. They were further destroyed and swept inland in 1963 after a 9.5 magnitude earthquake, the largest ever recorded on Earth, off the coast of Chile triggered a tsunami. It was not rebuilt until the 1990s, making its appearance in 1973 an anachronism.
  • The film reunites stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, who previously worked together on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It is also Sam Rockwell's third collaboration with director Martin McDonagh (following Seven Psychopaths).
  • Received a 13 minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.
  • The production required shipping all equipment by boat to Easter Island (Rapanui), which is highlighted in the film as the most isolated landmass globally. The crew adhered to a strict "leave no footprint" policy.
